How many times in your day to day do you find yourself saying, “I can’t believe I’m doing this, this is such a waste of time”. You know what I’m talking about… these are the tasks you do while you’re multitasking. While you’re watching TV.

For example, writing a blog post is extremely subjective. That’s something we should do ourselves.

BUT, when it comes time to post the blog to our website - now that’s a whole other story.

We login to our site, then find the page to add a new post, copy and paste the blog etc.

This whole process is such a waste of time! Not only that, but I don’t know about you… but I post my blogs to Medium AND as LinkedIn articles (and share on social media). I want to remind you about the mindset shift we need to make BEFORE even thinking about hiring a virtual assistant.

SAMPLE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

OKAY, so here are some questions.

Take them as is or tweak them and make them you’re own… you can find all of these in the show notes of this podcast as well.

1. Can you tell me a little bit about your experience in doing something similar to this job position?
2. Why are you interested in this position? 
3. How many clients do you currently work with and how do you manage your time?
4. What times of day will you be available to work on my projects? 
5. I prefer to communicate by (fill in the blank - whether email, skype, slack etc) - what is your preferred way of communicating?

Most of us who get into podcasting do not have a background in audio equipment or even editing for that matter. Add to that the fact that the understanding of how sound travels is not anything we’ve been taught or have come across in our careers. More often than not, many of us have gotten into or are getting into podcasting to promote our personal brand. Everything that comes with setting up a podcast (other than strategizing the actual content) is pretty foreign.

VA’s Are Similar to Employees

Scaling your business with Virtual Assistants is a process, but hiring your first VA doesn’t have to be. Sure when scaling we’ll need to hire for both subjective and objective tasks but when you’re hiring your first VA (or even one of your first few VA’s), I highly recommend starting with objective tasks.

First, let’s talk about the difference between objective and subjective tasks.

AN OBJECTIVE task is black and white. Either it gets done correct or incorrect.

A SUBJECTIVE task is something that requires artfulness (that might be a made up word but we’re going to roll with it). Artfulness is the opposite of black and white. It’s the opposite of math, it’s the opposite of right and wrong. A subjective task leads room for interpretation.
